Sarjan Barkati’s Nomination for Assembly Elections Rejected: Sources

SRINAGAR: The nomination form filed by Sarjan Barkati for the upcoming assembly elections has reportedly been rejected, according to sources. Barkati, currently in jail, had filed his nomination yesterday. His family members were expected to submit the papers on his behalf today, representing the Janata Dal United (JDU) party, as reported by the Press Trust of Kashmir.

Barkati has been in jail for some time, and his wife was also arrested by the State Investigation Agency (SIA) in November 2023 in connection with a militancy funding case.

There is no official confirmation yet on the rejection of Barkati’s nomination, and more details are awaited.
