India and China Hold Constructive Talks to Resolve Border Standoff

NEW DELHI, July 31: India and China engaged in “constructive and forward-looking” diplomatic talks on Wednesday, aiming to resolve the prolonged border standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

The discussions, held in Delhi under the framework of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC), focused on reviewing the current situation along the LAC and seeking an early resolution to the ongoing issues.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the importance of restoring peace and tranquillity along the border as a fundamental step towards normalizing bilateral relations. “Restoration of peace and tranquillity, and respect for the LAC are an essential basis for the restoration of normalcy in bilateral relations,” the MEA stated.

Both sides acknowledged the necessity to uphold peace and tranquillity in the border areas, adhering to relevant bilateral agreements, protocols, and understandings between the two governments. “The discussion at the meeting was in-depth, constructive, and forward-looking. Both sides agreed to maintain the momentum through the established diplomatic and military channels,” the ministry added.

These talks are a significant step in addressing the border tensions that have strained India-China relations, emphasizing the commitment of both nations to find a peaceful resolution.
