Jammu : An encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday morning. According to sources, three militants were killed during the encounter.
Their bodies were seen lying near the encounter site. Sources revealed that the terrorist group that had attacked the security forces on June 11-12 is believed to be trapped in the Gandoh area of Doda.
This comes amid intensified search and cordon operations by the police, along with the Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), following twin terrorist attacks in the hilly district on June 11 and 12, news agency PTI quoted officials as saying.
On June 11, a terrorist attack at a joint check post at Chattargalla left six security personnel injured, while a policeman sustained injuries during a gunfight with terrorists at Kota Top in the Gandoh area the next day.
Following the twin attacks, security forces stepped up their anti-terrorist operations. They also announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh each for four Pakistani terrorists believed to have infiltrated and are operating in the district.
The police, in joint efforts with security forces, launched an operation in the village of Sinoo panchayat but came under heavy fire from the hiding terrorists, an official said. The exchange of fire was still underway when last reports were received, they added.
