World Drug Day: Mirwaiz North Kashmir urges youth to stay away from drugs

Srinagar, June 26: On the The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Mirwaiz North Kashmir Parray Hassan Afzal Firdousi has appealed youth to stay away from drugs.
In his message, Mirwaiz Firdousi, who is also chairman Muslim Mutahida Mahaaz said, “Drug Addiction is nowadays the major problem of our society It is rightly said that if a country has to end its existence, it starts from the spread of drugs. The youth of the same nation are made blind in such a way that they are not able to differentiate between the right and the wrong and they don’t think of the family behind them. And the result is that they breathe their last. But the point is that what compels the youth of Kashmir to end up their life and ruin their future in this way.”
Kashmir which was known as Heaven on Earth, is now known as “Heaven for drug peddlers”, he said.
He questioned silence of the government on the issue? Why government is silent.
While giving reference from the Holy Quran and Hadith Mirwaiz Firdousi said: “You who believe, intoxicants and gambling, idolatrous practices, and [divining with] arrows are repugnant acts—Satan’s doing—shun them so that you may prosper. With intoxicants and gambling, Satan seeks only to incite enmity and hatred among you, and to stop you remembering God and prayer.”
The prophet says: “if a lot of it intoxicates, then even a little is haram”. Cocaine intoxicates. The hadith clearly states ‘it’ and does not specify alcohol. So any thing that intoxicates including all types of drugs such as cocaine, crack, LSD, marijuana, hashish…etc. is haram.”
Mirwaiz Firdousi also said that there can be a number of reasons for the increase of drug addiction in Kashmir but unemployment is main reason.
While addressing youth Mirwaiz Firdousi said, “The real strength of any nation is its youth. The passion of the new generation is what makes any nation grow. In any country, attention is paid to prepare the new generation for the better service of the country. It is not only necessary for economic development, but it also plays an important role in the defense of the country. It is the youth who protect the country from enemies by staying awake day and night on the borders.”
The real protection of the freedom and independence of the country is possible only thanks to the new generation. If the new generation is united and vigilant, then the enemy cannot put his evil intentions into practice.
But today, drug dealers have made it their goal to make the new generation addicted to different drugs. If the new generation of a country becomes addicted to drugs, the results become extremely dangerous, ” said Mirwaiz Firdousi.
He added : “When the new generation is addicted to drugs, social problems will also arise and as a result, the whole society will deteriorate. No effort has been spared to shake the foundation of the society and destroy the new generation.”
