Preparations for Assembly Polls Begin in J&K; Recent Terror Attackers Will Be Punished: PM

 

SRINAGAR, June 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Thursday that preparations for assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir have commenced, promising that the Union territory will regain its statehood. Speaking at an event in Srinagar, where he laid the foundation stone and inaugurated 84 developmental projects worth Rs 1,500 crore, Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing recent terror attacks in the region.

The Prime Minister asserted that the central government is taking the recent surge in terror attacks very seriously and assured that those responsible will face strict consequences. “The enemies of Jammu and Kashmir will be given a befitting reply,” he stated, highlighting the government’s resolve to restore peace.

Modi also commended the youth of Jammu and Kashmir for their active participation in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, noting their role in upholding democracy. He remarked on the significance of the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, suggesting that it marked a turning point for the region. “Today the Indian Constitution has truly been implemented in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

Acknowledging the persistent challenges to peace and development in the region, Modi noted that hostile forces are making desperate attempts to disrupt progress. He mentioned that the Home Minister has reviewed the security situation and emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to punishing those responsible for terror activities.

In his address, the Prime Minister reassured the people of Jammu and Kashmir that the central government is dedicated to establishing lasting peace in the region, signaling a hopeful future for its residents.
