DIG, SSP Escape Unhurt in Militant Attack in Kathua, Arms and Ammo Recovered

Srinagar, Jun 12: The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Kathua narrowly escaped harm after their convoy was attacked by a militant during an anti-militant operation in Hiranagar, an official reported.

 

The official stated that the convoy came under heavy fire, with the militant discharging over two dozen rounds. Fortunately, none of the officers or their personnel were injured in the attack.

 

In connection with the incident, security forces have recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition at the site of the ongoing gunfight. The recovered items include three magazines with 30 rounds each, another magazine with 24 rounds, 75 loose rounds, three live grenades, currency worth 1 lakh rupees (in 500-rupee notes), and various eatables such as Pakistani-made chocolates, dry chickpeas, and stale chapatis. Additionally, Pakistani-made medicines, painkiller injections, a syringe, two packs of A4 batteries, and a handset with an antenna and wires were also found.

 

In a related security measure, authorities have suspended traffic movement on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot Highway following a militant attack on a joint camp of security forces in the Chattergala area of Bhaderwah. The suspension will remain in effect until further notice.
