INS Sandhayak Commissioned by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to Strengthen India’s Maritime Security

VISAKHAPATNAM : Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commissioned INS Sandhayak, the first Survey Vessel Large (SVL) ship, at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam. The ceremony highlighted the vessel’s vital role in hydrographic surveys for safe marine navigation.
With a focus on securing oceanic information, Singh emphasized the ship’s pivotal role in protecting not only India but also friendly nations from maritime threats such as piracy and smuggling. INS Sandhayak, equipped with state-of-the-art hydrographic equipment, is set to bolster India’s position as a key player in maintaining peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region.
Singh applauded the Indian Navy’s prompt responses to pirate-related incidents and reiterated India’s commitment to ensuring freedom of navigation, trade, and commerce. The vessel, boasting 80% indigenous content, marks a milestone in India’s naval prowess and adds to the country’s robust security measures in the Indian Ocean.
Built at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, INS Sandhayak signifies India’s dedication to becoming a maritime superpower. The vessel’s capabilities, including deep sea and shallow water multibeam echo sounders, autonomous underwater vehicles, and advanced sonar systems, underscore its significance in safeguarding vital maritime interests.
