Gurez Receives Another Spell of Fresh Snowfall
The fresh snowfall blanketed the higher reaches of Gurez Valley on Saturday morning, transforming the landscape into a winter wonderland. However, this natural spectacle has not come without its challenges.
The local administration, responding promptly to the weather conditions, made the decision to close the Bandipora-Gurez road for traffic after the recent snowfall. This precautionary measure aims to ensure the safety of commuters and prevent any potential disruptions caused by the wintry conditions.
Adding to the winter saga, the Meteorological Department (MeT) has forecast generally dry weather in the region until January 20. Nevertheless, a cautious note accompanies this prediction, with a mention of a few feeble Western Disturbances expected on January 12th and 17th. The MeT suggests that the 17th of January may witness cloudy conditions with light snowfall over isolated higher reaches.
Meanwhile, parts of Kashmir continue to endure sub-zero temperatures during the ongoing 40-day period known as Chillai-Kalan. Commencing on December 21, 2023, and persisting until January 31, this period represents the harshest phase of winter in the region.
As Gurez Valley remains draped in the pristine beauty of fresh snow, residents and authorities alike brace themselves for the challenges that winter brings, emphasizing the need for vigilance and preparedness in the face of nature’s wintry embrace.
