PHE casual labourers protest, demand salaries
Press Trust of Kashmir | Srinagar : Demanding implementation of the minimum wages act and regularisation of their services. Hundreds of casual labourers from various departments on Monday staged a protest demonstration in Srinagar.
The protesting casual labourers assembled while raising slogans against the authorities like “We want justice, we want regularization of our services, etc.”
Protestors say the authorities are paying no heed towards our problems and, despite working in all the seasons; we are hardly getting the salaries we deserve.
Bashir Ahmad, a protestor, said that they have been working in the department for a long time on a meagre salary and, despite giving our whole lives to the department, we have been left unattended.
Ahmad stated that they are facing extreme problems as they have not been paid for months, which is affecting the education of their children.
We gave our blood and sweets to these departments in the hope that our services would be regularised and we would spend the rest of our lives smoothly.
The protesting casual labourers said, “It is we who are performing duties in all these difficult times but have been left unattended by the political regimes.”
Time and again we were assured that our services would be regularised, and the day has yet to come.
Another protestor holding the ply card that reads, “We want justice.” Their counterparts in other states said their governments had implemented the minimum wage act in favour of their employees and it is our UT administration who is not implementing the act.
He stated that until the authorities permanently accept our services, they must implement the minimum wage act in our favour so that we do not face hardships.
A female protestor said that she has been working in the department for the last fifteen years on a meagre salary. She added that, for her, it is going to be difficult to manage things when the prices of essential things are touching the sky.
The protesting casual labourers urged the administration to look into the matter and implement the minimum wage act in their favor.:-PTK.
