Encounter breaks out in Lawaypora Srinagar

Srinagar Dec, 29 (PTK) An encounter has started between militants and Government forces in the Omar Abad Lawaypora area of Srinagar in Central Kashmir on Tuesday.

An official confirming the exchange of gunfire ,said that 2 Rashtriya Rifles, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF jointly laid a siege in Omarabad area of Srinagar.

He said that the cordon was laid after the forces had received a tip-off about Militant movements in the area.

As soon as the forces launched the searches, the Militants opened fire on them to which the forces responded.

All the entry and exit points to the area have been sealed, sources said, adding “two to three militants are believed to be holed up at the site of the encounter.”

“Encounter has started at #Lawaypora area of #Srinagar. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” Police said in a tweet. (PTK)
