Srinagar-Leh highway reopens for essential supplies

SRINAGAR 11 APRIL (PTK) After remaining closed for more than five months, 434 Km Srinagar-Leh highway reopens today for essential supply vehicles.

Sources said, due to the shortage of petrol, diesel, vegetables and medicines in Kargil and Ladakh, vechicles laden with these supplies were allowed to ply on the road.

SSP Ganderbal Khalil Poswal along beacon and other officials on Saturday flagged of the first convoy of essential vehicless from Sonamarg towards Kargil and ladakh.

SSP said that the road will be opened for movement of authorised oil tankers only, no other vehicle shall be permitted towards Kargil.

Officials from ladakh said that no passenger movement will be allowed through Zojila, only Trucks and Tankers with essential commodities shall pass from Zojila any one violated government orders will face the law,he said.

He said that only conductor and drivers will allowed in these vehicles.(PTK)
