Amarnath Yatra curtailed due to terror threat; Jammu and Kashmir govt issues advisory

Srinagar, (PTK): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday curtailed the annual Amarnath Yatra in the wake of intelligence inputs regarding terror threats.

In an advisory, the Jammu and Kashmir Home Department cautioned: “In the interest of safety and security of the tourists and Amarnath Yatris, it is advised that they may curtail their stay in the valley immediately and take necessary measures to return as soon as possible”.

The advisory, dated August 02, 2019, has been signed by Principal Secretary to Government (Home Department), Shaleen Kabra.

Here is the Jammu and Kashmir government order:

Amarnath yatra suspended

In response to the circular, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah tweeted: “Although this unprecedented order would seem to suggest a genuine fear of a massive terror strike directed at Amarnath ji yatris or/and tourists this will do nothing to dampen the sense of fear & foreboding that prevails in the valley at the moment.” (PTK)
