Assembly Uproar: BJP, Congress Legislators Marshalled Out Amid Sloganeering

Srinagar, Sept 28 (PTK): High drama unfolded in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday as BJP and Congress legislators were marshalled out of the House following repeated disruptions and sloganeering during the debate on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s resolution seeking restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
BJP legislators Vikram Randhawa and Arvind Gupta, along with Congress MLAs Irfan Hafiz Lone and Iftikhar Ahmad, were marshalled out after the protests continued despite repeated appeals from the Chair to maintain order.
The Speaker warned the protesting members of strict action and urged legislators to uphold the discipline and decorum of the House.
The uproar reportedly intensified over references to autonomy and the pre-1953 position contained in the statehood resolution. BJP members raised objections, while Congress legislators also staged protests, raised slogans and displayed banners inside the House.
Despite repeated interventions by the Speaker, the proceedings were disrupted several times as the debate on the resolution continued.
The House eventually witnessed heightened tensions, with the protesting legislators being removed from the proceedings to restore order.(PTK)
