Samba Cricket Premier League U-19 Tournament Kicks Off at Kehli Ground Under Nasha Mukt J&K Campaign

Samba, June 3 (PTK): The Samba Cricket Premier League (SCPL) Under-19 Tournament commenced on Tuesday at Kehli Ground, Samba, as part of the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan aimed at promoting sports and encouraging youth participation in constructive activities.

The tournament was formally inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha during his visit to the district, marking the beginning of a major sporting initiative designed to promote a healthy and drug-free lifestyle among the younger generation.

Organised under the overall supervision and guidance of Deputy Commissioner Samba, Ayushi Sudan, the tournament seeks to channel the energy of youth towards sports while reinforcing the message of a drug-free society.

On the opening day, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Samba, Jagdish Singh, visited the venue and interacted with the participating players. Addressing the young cricketers, he encouraged them to pursue sports with dedication, discipline and commitment.

Highlighting the importance of sports in character building and youth development, the ADC said sporting activities play a vital role in promoting physical fitness, teamwork and a healthy lifestyle while helping steer young people away from drug abuse and other social evils.

He also conducted the toss before the commencement of the inaugural match and extended his best wishes to both participating teams.

The opening league fixture of the tournament was played between Purmandal Panthers and Samba Fighters. Batting first, Purmandal Panthers posted a competitive total of 158 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, Samba Fighters managed to score 131 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs, handing Purmandal Panthers a convincing 27-run victory in the tournament opener.

Bansh Sharma of Purmandal Panthers was adjudged Player of the Match for his impressive bowling performance, claiming three wickets while conceding just 23 runs in his four-over spell.

The inaugural event was attended by Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Ajay Bharti, officers from various departments, representatives of the organising committee, sports enthusiasts and a large number of local residents.

The tournament is expected to witness participation from several teams across the district and serve as a platform for identifying and nurturing young cricketing talent while spreading awareness against drug abuse.(PTK)
