Police Conduct Joint Market Checking Drives Ahead of Eid-ul-Adha in Sopore
Sopore, May 25 (PTK): Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday conducted joint market checking drives across Sopore Police District in coordination with the Revenue Department and the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department ahead of Eid-ul-Adha to curb overpricing, black marketing, hoarding and sale of substandard or expired commodities.
According to officials, a joint market inspection was carried out at Achabal and Reban markets by Sopore Police along with the Naib Tehsildar Watergam. During the drive, several shopkeepers were found violating trade norms, including non-display of rate lists and unhygienic practices.
On-the-spot fines were imposed on the violators and a total fine of ₹2,600 was realised during the checking drive.
In another operation, a joint market checking drive was conducted at Warpora Market by Jammu and Kashmir Police along with the Tehsildar Dangerpora.
The inspection team checked essential commodity outlets, mutton shops and provisional stores, where several shopkeepers were found violating government-notified rates and other regulations. They were fined on the spot.
Similarly, another joint market inspection was conducted at Main Market Dangiwacha by police officials along with the Naib Tehsildar Dangiwacha and Tehsil Supply Officer Dangiwacha.
During the inspection, expired food items and other unfit commodities were seized and destroyed on the spot in the presence of the checking team. Shopkeepers were strictly warned against overpricing, hoarding and sale of expired goods.
Officials said a fine of ₹2,700 was realised from violators during the Dangiwacha drive.
The authorities said the pre-Eid market checking drives are aimed at ensuring availability of quality essential commodities to the public at government-approved rates and warned that strict legal action would be taken against profiteering, hoarding or sale of expired and substandard goods.
Jammu and Kashmir Police reiterated its commitment towards ensuring a peaceful, safe and fair festive season for the people.(PTK)
