J&K Sports Council Launches Major Sporting Events Across Kashmir Under Nasha Mukt Campaign
Srinagar, May 12 (PTK): Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council (JKSC) has announced a comprehensive calendar of sporting events across the Kashmir Valley as part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan aimed at engaging youth through sports and promoting a drug-free society.
The initiative forms a key component of the government’s 100-day campaign focused on constructive youth engagement, promotion of grassroots talent and strengthening sporting culture across Jammu and Kashmir.
According to officials, the South Kashmir Volleyball League 2026 will be held from May 14 to 17 in association with the Volleyball Association of Jammu and Kashmir. The league is expected to provide a competitive platform for volleyball players from South Kashmir and help identify emerging talent at the district level.
The Kashmir Championship Football League will also commence district-level selection trials, beginning on May 13 at Madri Meharban Stadium in Ganderbal. Players aspiring to represent their districts have been asked to report at the venue on the scheduled date.
Similarly, the Karate Championship will be inaugurated on May 16 at the Indoor Sports Hall, Polo Ground in Srinagar, bringing together karate players from across the Valley to showcase their talent and competitive excellence.
In connection with World Bicycle Day, the Sports Council will also organise a Cyclothon in Srinagar to promote cycling as a healthy lifestyle activity and spread awareness against drug abuse and obesity. The dates and route details for the event will be announced shortly.
Officials further informed that a Women’s Rugby Trophy is also being planned to expand opportunities for women in sports. Details regarding the event venue and schedule will be shared in the coming days.
The Sports Council will additionally conduct live demonstrations and introductory sessions in martial arts and traditional combat disciplines including Taekwondo, Karate, Wushu, Kudo, Pencak Silat, Suky Martial Art and Thang-Ta to encourage youth participation and introduce them to structured training programmes.
Officials said the events are aligned with the broader objectives of the Nasha Mukt campaign, which seeks to engage youth positively, tackle drug abuse, encourage physical fitness and address growing health concerns including obesity.
The Sports Council appealed to athletes, coaches, sports associations and enthusiasts across Jammu and Kashmir to actively participate in the programmes and contribute towards building a healthier and drug-free generation.
