Satish Sharma Pushes Solarization in J&K, Assures Fast-Track of Green Energy Projects

Srinagar, May 05 (PTK): Minister for Science and Technology, Satish Sharma, on Tuesday reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritising solarisation over conventional electricity and accelerating adoption of renewable energy across Jammu and Kashmir.

The Minister was speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the Jammu and Kashmir Solar Association, which raised key issues related to promotion of solar energy in the region.

Assuring full government support, Satish Sharma emphasised facilitating installation of rooftop solar systems, especially in far-flung and underserved areas. He said that expanding clean energy infrastructure is central to the government’s vision of building a sustainable, energy-efficient and environmentally responsible Union Territory.

Highlighting the benefits of solar power, the Minister noted that increased adoption will help meet rising energy demands while reducing dependence on conventional energy sources.

Taking a proactive stance, he directed officials to resolve all pending issues of the association in a time-bound manner. He stressed that delays in approvals, clearances and implementation must be addressed urgently to ensure smooth execution of solar projects.

The Minister also called for improved coordination among government departments, implementing agencies and private stakeholders to eliminate bottlenecks and fast-track solar initiatives. He assured that necessary policy and administrative support would be extended to strengthen the renewable energy ecosystem in the region.

Reiterating the focus on inclusive development, Satish Sharma said special emphasis is being placed on extending solar benefits to remote and underserved areas to ensure equitable access to clean energy solutions.

The delegation appreciated the Minister’s proactive approach and expressed confidence that the initiatives will significantly boost the growth of the solar sector in Jammu and Kashmir.(PTK)
