SRINAGAR, OCT 19 (PTK): Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have detained five more people in connection with terrorist activities in Mendhar constituency of Poonch district. The arrests were made on suspicion of supporting the militants hiding in the jungles responsible for the killing of officers and security personnel.

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have launched a search operation across the state and even in some other parts of India following the brutal killing of 11 civilians and several police and security personnel within a month.

After two more Emery personnel were killed during an anti-militancy operation in the dense forests of Nar Khas in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, security forces have launched a massive crackdown against “anti-social elements” in the Union Territory.

A total of eight terrorists have been arrested so far after three persons were detained in connection with terrorist activities in the area on Sunday.

Moreover, after a series of attacks on civilians and army personnel, security has been tightened once again in several districts of Jammu and Kashmir, including the capital Srinagar.

In many districts and regions, authorities have suspended internet services where attacks have been reported recently.

Security measures have been increased across the state and bulletproof mobile bunkers have been deployed in Srinagar with multiple checkpoints and barriers.

According to the Hindustan Times report, the police have detained and questioned hundreds of people as part of their investigation into the killings of civilians. Meanwhile, the anti-insurgency operation has also been intensified.

The report said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to visit Kashmir in the last week of October to review the security situation and inaugurate development projects. (PTK)
