19-hour long gunfight ends in Sopore with killing of two militants

SRINAGAR, (PTK): 19-hour long gunfight that started on Thursday night in Warpora area of Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district was ended up with killing of two unidentified militants.
According to reports , two unidentified militants have been killed during gunfight in Warpora area of Sopore while as their identification and affiliation is yet to be known.
The joint team of 22 RR , 179 bn CRPF and Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday afternoon laid a siege to Warpora village of Sopore sub-divison . After searching the whole area for nine-hours , forces approached a suspected spot where from hiding militants fired upon the search party after which exchange of fire from both sides started.
During the exchange of fire , forces claimed killing of one militant today morning.
As per reports , the encounter was long as because hiding militants kept changing their positions throughout the day.
The sources said that slain militants belong to Lashker-e-Toiba militant group , however there was no confirmation by officials about it.
Soon after the news of killing of militant spread in the Warpora and nearby areas , youth came out of homes and tried to disturb operation . The forces tried to disperse the protesters by chasing them away but they failed .The forces then used teargas smoke shells.
During these day long clashes many youth suffered injuries who were treated in local medical shops and hospitals . The injured were mainly hut by pellets and injuries were minor.
Meanwhile , internet services were suspended in the area on Thursday evening.
Moreover, authorities had imposed restrictions in Sopore and adjacent areas to thwart any kind of unwanted incident.
After the encounter, Sopore township observed a complete shutdown.
The bodies of militants have been recovered and bodies have been taken to nearby police station for identification.
Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter. Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter. (PTK)
