JAMMU : Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir, Durga Dass, has joined the Congress party. The announcement was made at a function where Dass, who previously represented the Hiranagar constituency in Kathua, formally joined the Congress along with Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) leader Mohammad Iqbal Dar.

The new entrants were welcomed into the Congress fold by senior party leaders, including Congress in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir Bharatsinh Solanki, All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary Manoj Yadav, Pradesh Congress Committee president Vikar Rasool Wani, and the party’s candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Choudhary Lal Singh and Raman Bhalla.

Speaking on the occasion, Bharatsinh Solanki highlighted the Congress party’s commitment to delivering justice to every section of society, contrasting it with what he described as false guarantees made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Solanki emphasized the Congress’s track record of fulfilling its promises and reiterated the party’s dedication to fighting for justice for all.

He recalled former party chief Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which aimed to connect with people across the country and champion their causes. Solanki asserted that the Congress has fielded exemplary candidates to represent the interests of the people, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, where he alleged that the Modi regime had failed to address the region’s grievances.

Solanki highlighted the erosion of identity, rights, and democratic principles in the Union Territory, stressing the need for change and restoration of statehood. He called upon the people of Jammu and Kashmir to support the Congress and its allies in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls to ensure victory and pave the way for a brighter future.

With the addition of Durga Dass and Mohammad Iqbal Dar to its ranks, the Congress aims to bolster its presence in Jammu and Kashmir and emerge as a formidable force in the political landscape, challenging the incumbent administration’s policies and advocating for the rights and aspirations of the people.
