Army Foils Terrorist Attack in Rajouri, Cordon and Search Operation Underway

RAJOURI July 22: Army troops successfully thwarted a terrorist attack on a security post in the Gundha area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. Following the attack, a cordon and search operation was launched to apprehend the perpetrators, officials reported.

According to sources from the Press Trust of Kashmir, the incident began at around 4 am when terrorists opened fire on an Army post. The troops at the post immediately retaliated, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire, an Army spokesperson confirmed. In the skirmish, both a jawan and a civilian sustained injuries.

The spokesperson further stated that the initial assault was repelled by the Army, prompting security forces to initiate a comprehensive search operation in the vicinity to locate the attackers. Despite the initial success, fresh exchanges of gunfire have been reported as the search operation continues.

Sources revealed that before targeting the Army post, the terrorists attempted to attack the house of a Village Defence Group (VDG) member and ex-serviceman on the outskirts of a nearby hamlet. However, the presence of police personnel forced the terrorists to abandon their initial plan and subsequently direct their assault on the Army post.

As the situation remains tense, security forces are on high alert, and efforts are being intensified to ensure the safety of the area and apprehend the remaining terrorists.
