Home Minister Amit Shah Affirms: CAA Here to Stay
New Delhi PTK: In a statement, Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is a non-negotiable law that will not be rescinded. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to upholding Indian sovereignty, Shah reaffirmed that the BJP-led administration will staunchly defend the CAA against any attempts to repeal it.
Speaking to a news agency, Shah underscored the significance of the CAA in safeguarding the rights of persecuted minorities from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Dismissing criticisms of the law’s constitutionality, he clarified that the CAA aligns with Article 14 of the Constitution and serves a clear, reasonable purpose by providing refuge to those facing religious persecution.
Responding to opposition parties’ objections regarding the timing of the CAA’s implementation, Shah reiterated the BJP’s longstanding commitment to the legislation, as outlined in its 2019 manifesto. He emphasized that the CAA’s enactment was delayed due to circumstances beyond the government’s control, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
Addressing concerns raised by opposition leaders, Shah condemned attempts to portray the CAA as anti-Muslim, emphasizing its humanitarian intent to assist persecuted minorities regardless of religion. He criticized those engaging in “vote bank politics” for misleading the public about the law’s provisions.
Furthermore, Shah challenged assertions made by certain state leaders, particularly West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, regarding the CAA’s implications for citizenship rights. He urged leaders to refrain from spreading misinformation and instead focus on addressing the plight of persecuted minorities.
The implementation of the CAA, marked by the recent notification of rules by the Union Home Ministry, underscores the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promise to provide refuge to persecuted non-Muslim migrants. With the CAA firmly in place, the government stands firm in its resolve to uphold justice and protect the rights of vulnerable communities. Press Trust of Kashmir Reports.
