Election Commission Announces Special Measures Ahead of Polls in Jammu and Kashmir

In a bid to ensure inclusivity and security during the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission has announced several special provisions. Among these, individuals above 85 years of age and those with disabilities will be granted the convenience of voting from their homes. Additionally, stringent monitoring of online cash transfers through digital wallets has been put in place to curb potential misuse.
To bolster security measures, adequate protection will be extended to all candidates, while central forces will be deployed to maintain order throughout the electoral process. Recognizing the prevalent issue of misinformation, the Election Commission plans to establish social media cells in every district to promptly address fake news and maintain the integrity of information dissemination.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar emphasized the Commission’s commitment to conducting polls peacefully with maximum participation. During a review of poll preparedness in Jammu and Kashmir, meetings were held in both Srinagar and Jammu, reaffirming the Commission’s dedication to fostering a conducive environment for democratic participation.
“We are fully prepared for the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls scheduled to be held this year,” stated Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar. He further highlighted the engagement with various political parties to ensure a level playing field and address their concerns regarding security.
Among the parties consulted, national entities such as the BJP, CPI(M), and Indian National Congress, along with state-recognized parties including the National Conference and Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party, expressed the importance of equitable opportunities and emphasized the necessity of adequate security measures for all stakeholders.
With these proactive measures and collaborative efforts, the Election Commission endeavors to uphold the democratic ethos and facilitate a fair and secure electoral process in Jammu and Kashmir.
