Police Adopts New Approach to Tackle Terrorism and Narcotics: DGP Swain

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police, R R Swain, announced a paradigm shift in the police approach towards combating terrorism and narcotics in the region. Addressing reporters after a Public Darbar in Baramulla district, Swain emphasized the need to view those involved in terrorism as victims, while holding the real culprits accountable for their actions.

 

“We want our youth to steer clear of narcotics and terrorism. Civil society and Masjid Ulmas play a crucial role in this endeavor,” stated Swain, highlighting the importance of community involvement in preventing radicalization and drug abuse. He reiterated the police’s commitment to rewarding officers for their efforts in implementing this new approach.

 

Swain emphasized the importance of prevention over cure, expressing a willingness to facilitate the rehabilitation of individuals who wish to leave the path of violence. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the police in a volatile region but underscored their dedication to making a positive impact.

 

Addressing the drug issue, Swain announced plans for special meetings with the Chief Secretary and Health Secretary to address the complexities of drug addiction, emphasizing the need for collaboration between law enforcement and health authorities.

 

The DGP also outlined measures to enhance public outreach beyond the capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu, including increased frequency of public darbars and a follow-up system for complaints received during these interactions. He highlighted the direct interaction between the police and the community, recognizing the importance of understanding and addressing the concerns of the people they serve.

 

In conclusion, Swain reiterated the police’s commitment to fostering a safer and more secure environment for all residents of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between law enforcement, community stakeholders, and other government agencies in achieving this goal.
