Pesky power cuts irks Kangan residents

Press Trust of Kashmir | Srinagar:- Amid power tariff hike, residents of several areas in Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have alleged that the power development department is supplying them unscheduled power due to which locals are suffering.
The aggrieved residents said that with tarrif hike they were expecting fewer power cuts after the department issued a fresh curtailment schedule last month but situation has worsened in the area.
The residents of Prang, Barwalla, Kijpora and adjacent areas claimed, the power scenario has not been changed and we are still facing prolonged power cuts besides that voltage in the area is very low.
Every winter, the power department is claiming load shedding as the reason for power cuts and every winter we are facing the same issues but they have failed in resolving the issue, Raja syed a resident of Prang said
He said the situation has not improved despite the tall claims by the Power Development Department.
With the onset of winter, we are again facing unscheduled power cuts. Uninterrupted power supply is important to keep life moving in bone chilling winter, said mohd aaqib another resident.
He said since the power infrastructure has been enhanced in almost nook and corner of the Kangan area and we were expecting scheduled better power supply this year, but situation has even worsened ground in terms of power supply schedule.
He said that even when there is power, the voltage is very low due to which people are suffering more.
Locals said that the power department has failed to ensure proper power supply as per curtailment schedule, affecting them as well and business units
They said that they have brought this issue in notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile AEE PDD Kangan said that the reason behind unscheduled power is only and only overloading and nothing else.
He said that if public will cooperate with the department, the power supply will be scheduled in the area.:- PTK.
