After first round:- Murmu continues to maintain leads

PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR JULY 21:-After the first round of counting, NDA’s presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu is leading with 540 of the 748 votes of the MPs, while Opposition nominee Yashwant Sinha has received 208 votes.

Ms. Murmu, if elected, will be the first tribal woman to occupy the top constitutional post in the country.

There are also reports of cross-voting in favour of Ms. Murmu in a number of States. There is no whip issued to members in the presidential poll. MPs of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, except nominated MPs, and all MLAs in Legislative Assembly in all States act as electors in the presidential poll.

After second round of counting of votes of MPs and 10 States, Ms. Murmu gets 4,83,299 votes and Mr. Sinha gets 1,89,876. Of total votes counted so far, Ms. Murmu got 71.79% votes.

After the second round, where ballot paper of first 10 States in alphabetical order were counted, total valid votes 1,138 and their total value is 1,49,575. Out of this, Ms. Murmu gets 809 votes valued at 1,05,299 and Mr. Sinha gets 329 votes valued at 44,276, said P.C. Mody, Secretary-General, Rajya Sabha.
