NIA seeks death penalty for Yasin Malik, court reserves judgement

Press Trust of Kashmir | Srinagar : Senior separatist leader Mohammed Yasin Malik has been produced before the NIA court in New Delhi on Wednesday morning.

NIA has sought the death penalty for Yasin Malik but the court has reserved its order and will pronounce the quantum of punishment to Yasin Malik today at 3:30 pm.

Yasin Malik had told the court that he will not plead his case. “I know all about this case and I do not need a lawyer to pursue my case,” Yasin Malik had told the court, according to news reports.

The NIA court had also sought an affidavit from Yasin Malik regarding his financial assessment and asked the investigating Agency (NIA) to submit a report related to his financial assessment.

Earlier the NIA court had framed charges against Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Saeed, Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin and others for hatching a criminal conspiracy, waging war against the country, and other unlawful activities.

Yasin Malik, 54, is lodged in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail after he was arrested under the Public Safety Act in March 2019, but a month later his custody was shifted to National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a two-year-old case of “militant and separatist funding”.:-PTK.
