Police arrests 02 drug peddlers in Handwara; Contraband substances recovered

Press Trust of Kashmir | Srinagar : Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

Officers at a checkpoint established at Wangam crossing on Baramulla-Handwara highway intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number DL9CJ-2559 with two persons on board who after noticing a police party tried to flee but were apprehended tactfully. They have been identified as Mohd Yousuf Bhat son of Abdul Jabar Bhat resident of Rohama Rafiabad and  Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat son of Gh Mohi-u-Din Bhat resident of Badan Rafiabad.  During search, officers were able to recover 2Kgs of heroin from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 04/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Kralgund and investigation has been taken up. During preliminary investigation it surfaced that the accused drug peddlers are involved in supplying drugs in Baramulla, Sopore and Handwara areas.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.:-PTK.
