The UT of J&K has registered a new record of the longest ban on high-speed internet. It’s been more than 500 days since that 4G Internet was restricted in the UT. On 4th August 2019, a day before abrogation of the special status of J&K the Central Government snapped the high-speed Internet across J&K to avoid any incident of violence.

Earlier Israel Government restricted the high-speed Internet for 325 in Israel during the war between Israel and Palestine. Since then no country or state has ever witnessed such a ban on high-speed Internet.

This year on January 25, 2G internet services were resumed in the UT and since then the people of J&K are enjoying 2G services at the price of 4G. On 16th August 2020 4G services were resumed on a trial basis in the Ganderbal and Udhampur district of J&K but in the remaining 18 districts, 4G is still banned.

The Corona Pandemic this year brought everything under the control of the Internet but the people of J&K are struggling with improper internet speed. But an achievement that J&K has achieved is that during lockdown the private telecom companies increased their pace of laying internet fibers and people of J&K are easily getting wifi connections at their home where they can enjoy high-speed internet.(PTK)
