Coronavirus: Curbs, lockdown continue in JK for 12th day

Srinagar, Mar 30 (PTK): The restrictions to prevent public movement and assembly of people continued for the 12th consecutive day in Jammu and Kashmir amid strict lockdown to stop spread of deadly Coronavirus.

Police and paramilitary forces continue to remain deployed in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley. The security men have sealed highways and intersections to stop movement of inter-state and inter-district vehicles.

Police and health officials also continue to patrol in rural areas as well to make people aware about maintaining social distance, following advisories with regard to COVID-19 prevention and discourage public assembly.

The markets in Srinagar and other districts of the Valley remained deserted as lockdown continued for 12th straight day.

Lal Chowk, the vital business hub in Srinagar, remained out of bounds as forces denied public entry into the main city.

However, the government allowed people to access essential services including purchase of essentials including drugs, groceries, vegetables and fruits etc.

Kashmir has been under complete lockdown since March 19 in a bid to stop the deadly Coronavirus spread.

The restrictions were imposed after a 67-year-old woman from Khanyar area tested positive of Coronavirus, making her the first COVID-19 case in Kashmir.

The government vehicles, ambulances, and government staff involved in efforts against COVID-19 and staff of other emergency services have been exempted from curbs in the Valley, which has seen surge in Covid-19 cases in last few days. (PTK)
