Lok Sabha Election Results: Counting On, BJP Ahead In First Leads
NEW DELHI :Accourding to the reports on Thursday morning began counting the millions of votes cast in the Lok Sabha elections across the country whose verdict will determine who gets to rule India for the next five years.
Thousands of Election Commission officials began the mammoth exercise in thousands of centres in states and Union Territories amid tight security.
BJP has surged ahead in early leads but has fallen back on several seats they won in 2014. The Congress, while trailing, has made significant gains from last time. BJP and allies are leading in 227 (-34) seats, Congress and allies in 96 (+42) and the non-aligned parties in 70 (-7) seats.
Around 67 per cent of the nearly 900 million voters exercised their franchise in the seven-phase elections that began on April 11 and ended on May 19.
