Custodial Death: Clashes in parts of South Kashmir, Srinagar areas shut

SRINAGAR, (PTK): Massive clashes between youth and government forces erupted in parts of South Kashmir after news of death of Rizwan spread in the areas.

According to eyewitness, massive clashes erupted in Awanitpora township of South Kashmir when the news reached the area regarding the custodial death of a local youth.

The eyewitness said that thousands of people from different areas of Awanitpora tried to march towards house of slain Rizwan. When forces came into their ways, youth resorted to stone pelting to which government forces responded with teargas shelling and firing in air.

Clashes were on in Awanitpora when this report filed in.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed in Awanitpora and nearby areas against this killing.

Reports reaching here said that soon the news reached Maisuma and nearby areas, shopkeepers downed the shutters of their shops.

High speed internet services were suspended in parts of Southern Kashmir. Anger was seen in Kashmir against this incident.

Many of prominent leaders including Chief Patron of Kashmir Mirwaiz Umar Farooq condemned this incident.

Pertinently, a youth who was identified as Rizwan Ahmad Pandit died in custody of government forces in a SOG camp of Srinagar. (PTK)
