New Zealand Terrorist Attack: 40 killed in Christchurch mosque shootings

SRINAGAR, (PTK): Forty people were killed in shootings at two mosques in central Christchurch, New Zealand, on Friday, in what Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern labeled “a terrorist attack.”

Four people have been arrested and several bombs found after 40 people were killed in shootings at two Christchurch mosques.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has confirmed that as at 7pm 40 people have lost their lives in the shootings at the Masjid Al Noor on Deans Ave and the Linwood Masjid on Linwood Ave on Friday.

Canterbury District Health Board chief executive David Meates said 48 people with gunshot wounds were also being treated at Christchurch Hospital.

• Officials said that four people were in custody, adding that a number of explosive devices were found attached to vehicles that they had stopped.

• A Muslim leader in New Zealand said the attack was especially shocking as it took place during Friday prayers. The police called on mosques nationally to “shut their doors” and urged people to stay away from the mosques until further notice.
