Heaps of garbage stink Srinagar-Gulmarg road, leaves bad impressions on tourists
SRINAGAR, (PTK): The presence of heaps of garbage scattered on roadside of Srinagar-Gulmarg road at different places in Narbal and nearby has left bad impressions on tourists and has become a threat to locals.
Known as the gateway of Gulmarg, Narbal – a Tehsil located just 15 kms from Srinagar has roadsides filled with garbage.
The shopkeepers alleged that the garbage scattered on roadside leaves bad impression on tourists and this has become a reason why amount of tourists visiting valley has decreased.
“The tehsil authorities should ensure the clearance of the garbage from the area as it leaves bad impression on tourists and they hardly stop at our shops,” a shopkeeper said.
“The presence of the garbage has become a nuisance for the shopkeepers. There is no dustbin placed in area which forces locals to drop garbage on roadside. We request DC Budgam and Tehsildar Narbal to take note of it, lift it as soon as possible and place some dustbins in the area,” the locals said.
The shopkeepers added that thousands of tourists go through this road on daily basis and if this garbage will not be lifted from the area, the day isn’t far when tourists will stop visiting the famous picnic spot Gulmarg.
When correspondent of Press Trust of Kashmir visited the area, he found heaps of garbage scattered on roadside near Holy Mission School Narbal, Mehdi Abad Narbal near dispensary and Chinar Colony Check-e-Kawoosa Narbal. (PTK)
