4 Kashmiri students thrashed in Chattisgarh

Manzoor Ahmad Mir, a resident of Dachigam area of Bandipora said “At around 8:30 pm we went to the college canteen to have dinner. Few students from Maharashtra attacked a Kashmiri student after he mistakenly took a plate from the table meant for the former. We intervened but they attacked us and chased us away to our hostel rooms”.
He said the Maharashtra students along with the locals later ransacked their belongings at the hostel rooms.
“They smashed the window panes with iron rods and hurled stones at us, resulting in injuries to four Kashmiri students,” said another student.
The injured students were identified as Zahid Wani from Nadihal, Mohsin and Naveed both from Pazalpora and Faisal from Putushai Bandipora.
The students said that the attackers ransacked their wardrobes, broke lockers and also threatened them with dire consequences if they stayed in the college.
The students said: “The students who are accommodated in the same hostel building in 2nd and 3rd floor respectively in the shape of a mob also broke windowpanes of the building and threatened us,” said a student while talking to Kashmir Reader over phone. “No one seems to take our statements in to consideration and have left us alone feeling threatened and unsafe, even the phone numbers from our coordinators from Himayat in Srinagar are switched off and no one among them is here with us”.
They added that though the majority of us managed to flee and hide into the room by blocking the entry till the police came, the four students were caught unaware as they were in washrooms and were taken out and beaten”.
