CM Omar Abdullah Calls on PM Modi, Raises Statehood and Development Issues of J&K
Seeks Early Restoration of Statehood, Greater Support for Economy, Connectivity and Infrastructure
New Delhi, June 11 (PTK): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and discussed a range of important issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir, including the early restoration of statehood, economic development and key infrastructure priorities.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister conveyed the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir regarding the restoration of statehood and emphasized that its early reinstatement would strengthen democratic institutions, deepen public participation and accelerate the region’s development process.
Omar Abdullah requested the Prime Minister to take forward the process of restoring statehood at the earliest, describing it as an important step towards fulfilling the democratic aspirations of the people.
The Chief Minister also briefed the Prime Minister on Jammu and Kashmir’s economic situation and ongoing developmental initiatives across various sectors. He highlighted the progress achieved in infrastructure development, public service delivery and welfare programmes while identifying areas requiring sustained investment and support.
During the discussion, Omar Abdullah stressed the need for continued assistance from the Government of India to accelerate economic growth, improve connectivity, generate employment opportunities and strengthen infrastructure across the Union Territory.
He particularly highlighted the need for fuller utilization of Jammu and Kashmir’s hydropower potential, augmentation of rail services on the Udhampur-Srinagar rail corridor in view of the upcoming apple season and the scheduled closure of Srinagar Airport, development of new tourism circuits and continued support for farmers, artisans and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The Chief Minister underscored that strengthening these sectors would contribute significantly to employment generation, economic growth and public welfare across Jammu and Kashmir.
“Jammu and Kashmir is committed to being a full and productive partner in India’s growth story,” Omar Abdullah said during the meeting.
He added that the early restoration of statehood, coupled with sustained support from the Government of India, would further strengthen Jammu and Kashmir’s journey towards inclusive growth, prosperity and good governance.(PTK)
