J&K Police Busts Terror Hideout in Baramulla; Huge Cache of Explosives Recovered
Baramulla, May 24 (PTK): Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday said that a terrorist hideout was busted and a huge cache of explosives was recovered during a joint counter-terror operation in the Nilsar Kandi area of Chandoosa in Baramulla district.
According to police, acting on a specific intelligence input generated by Jammu and Kashmir Police, a joint operation was launched by Police, 52 Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF 53 Battalion and SSB 2 Battalion on May 23, 2026.
During the operation, security forces unearthed a concealed hideout and recovered a substantial quantity of war-like stores, including 14 Soviet-made OG-7V fragmentation rounds meant for RPGs, recovered in plastic packaging, and nine PG-7P propellant charges/boosters contained in green plastic tubes.
Police said the recovery thwarted a potential threat and marked a significant achievement in the ongoing anti-terror operations in North Kashmir. The operation reportedly continued for nearly six hours to ensure complete sanitisation of the area and eliminate any possible threat.
Subsequently, the recovered explosive material was examined by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and safely destroyed on the spot following standard safety protocols.
In this regard, FIR No. 23/2026 under Sections 4/5 Explosive Substances Act and 7/25 Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Chandoosa and further investigation has been initiated.(PTK)
