Residents of Theru, Lar Seek Immediate Action Against Australian Poplar Trees Over Health Concerns

Ganderbal, May 09 (PTK): Residents of Theru area in Lar area of Ganderbal have appealed to the district administration for immediate intervention against the excessive presence of Australian Poplar trees, alleging that the trees are causing severe respiratory and environmental health issues in the locality.
In a representation addressed to the District Administration, the residents said that cotton-like pollen and allergens released by the Australian Poplar trees during the season are adversely affecting public health, particularly children, elderly persons, asthma patients and individuals suffering from respiratory ailments.
The residents alleged that many people in the area are facing persistent coughing, breathing difficulties, throat irritation, allergies, sinus infections and other respiratory complications linked to the pollen released by the trees.
According to the representation, although Australian Poplar trees have reportedly been restricted in several areas due to their harmful environmental and health impacts, residents claimed that the regulations have not been properly enforced in Theru, where a large number of poplar trees continue to surround residential areas.
Locals further stated that the issue is not only affecting health but also impacting livelihoods, as recurring illnesses have increased medical expenses and reduced the working capacity of several families. They expressed concern that despite repeated requests, no concrete action has been taken so far.
The residents have urged the administration to conduct an immediate inspection of the affected areas, strictly enforce environmental regulations, remove hazardous Australian Poplar trees located near residential zones and take preventive measures to safeguard public health and the environment.
The appeal, submitted by the concerned residents of Theru, Lar, has sought urgent intervention from the authorities in the interest of public safety and welfare.(PTK)
