India has reported its first suspected case of Mpox, involving a young male who recently returned from a country experiencing Mpox transmission, according to the Union Health Ministry. The patient is currently in stable condition and isolated at a hospital while tests are being conducted to confirm the infection. The ministry emphasized there is no immediate cause for concern, and contact tracing is underway.

Mpox, caused by the monkeypox virus, spreads through close contact and can manifest symptoms like fever, muscle aches, and a rash. The World Health Organization (WHO) notes that while most cases are mild, certain groups, including children and immunocompromised individuals, are at a higher risk of severe illness. WHO recommends vaccination for high-risk groups but does not suggest mass immunization.

Preventive measures include good hygiene, isolation of infected individuals, and avoiding close contact with potential carriers.
