Srinagar, Aug 30: Senior Congress leader and former JKPCC President Vikar Rasool on Friday asserted that there is no evidence or witnesses against him in a case filed by the Election Commission. Speaking to reporters in Banihal, Vikar expressed his respect for the court’s decision and provided context for the ongoing legal matter.

He explained that the case stems from an event during his tenure as the All India General Secretary and MLA of the Youth Congress. In 2012, during a rally in Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission took notice of an incident where people were seated in a school, leading to legal action.

According to Vikar, after the initial notice in 2012, there were no further developments for 12 years. However, in 2024, another notice was issued, and a case was subsequently filed. He mentioned that 13 individuals were charged, and 9 were fined amounts ranging from Rs. 500 to Rs. 1000.

Vikar highlighted that such legal situations are not uncommon, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, where similar cases often result in warnings rather than fines. He remains confident that the case will be resolved soon, as it is currently in a higher court.

Vikar reiterated that there is no evidence or witnesses against him, yet he respects the court’s decision. He concluded by noting that the case has been granted bail and is expected to reach a conclusion in the coming days.
