Assembly Elections: 51 Candidates, Including 2 Women, Obtain Nomination Forms in Anantnag

Anantnag, Aug 26: As the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir draw closer, a total of 51 candidates have obtained nomination forms in two key constituencies in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The constituencies involved are Anantnag Main (44) and Anantnag West.

According to sources, among the 51 potential candidates, two women have collected their forms from the respective Returning Officers in the district. Specifically, 20 candidates have taken forms for the Anantnag West constituency, while 31 candidates have obtained forms for Anantnag Main.

Almost all regional parties, including the PDP, NC, Congress (Alliance), BJP, AIP, and United Janta Dal (UJD), have shown interest in contesting the upcoming elections. However, the majority of those who have taken forms so far intend to run as independent candidates. Sources indicate that the candidates from regional parties are planning to file their nomination forms tomorrow.

The Anantnag district, comprising seven Assembly Constituencies, allows candidates to submit their nominations until August 27. The nomination papers will be scrutinized on August 28 by the Returning Officers. Candidates may withdraw their nominations until August 30. The elections are scheduled to take place on September 18, 2024.

Anantnag district has a total voter count of 667,781, which includes 336,185 male voters, 331,592 female voters, and 4 transgender voters. A network of 844 polling stations has been set up across the district to accommodate the voters.
