Interreligious Marriage: Police Takes Cognizance of Case in Baramulla

Srinagar, August 2 : The police announced late Friday evening that they have taken cognizance of an interreligious marriage case following a missing person’s report lodged by the girl’s father in Baramulla district, North Kashmir.

 

According to the police, a missing report was filed on August 16, 2024, at Kreeri Police Station regarding the daughter of Gh Mohi-ud-din Sheikh (details withheld), who had been missing since the morning of the same day. It has now come to light that on August 19, 2024, the girl converted and married Sagar Pradeep Singh of Navi Mumbai (details withheld). The Kreeri Police Station, under the jurisdiction of Baramulla District Police, has taken cognizance of the matter and registered a case under the relevant sections of the law.

 

A police spokesperson further stated that the cyber patrol unit of Baramulla District Police has detected several misleading and inflammatory posts being circulated by miscreants and anti-social elements, aiming to incite disturbance. Such actions violate various laws and could lead to strict legal consequences, including criminal proceedings.

 

The police have issued a stern advisory urging people not to share or repost misleading or inflammatory content related to the incident. Those who have already shared such content are advised to delete it immediately.

 

The statement emphasized that the J&K Police are committed to ensuring a safe and respectful digital environment for all citizens.
