Higher reaches Recieve Fresh spell of Snow, Rains lash plains in valley
Srinagar, 22 Jan (PTK) : The higher reaches of Kashmir valley including famous ski resort Gulmarg,Kokernag and Pahalgam received a fresh spell of snowfall while plains recieved rains on saturday , resulting in chilly weather conditions across the Valley .
According to press trust of Kashmir (PTK) Currently it is raining in some parts of Kashmir Valley while famous tourist resort gulmarg in north Kashmir, received over 12 cms of fresh snow , resulting in further dip in the day temperature. Kongdori and Apharwat, the highest point of the cable car project in Gulmarg, also received fresh snowfall.
Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, had received 3.5cms of fresh snowfall during the intervening night of Friday-Saturday.
However plain areas of the Kashmir valley also received light to moderate rainfall since last 24 hours.
An official from Metrological department Srinagar told Press Trust Of Kashmir (PTK) that the fresh snowfall in the upper reaches occurs due to an active Western Disturbance, which causes changes in weather,this weather system will remain for next 12-18 hours while there will be moderate snow in higher reaches and rains in plains of Kashmir valley.
He adds that Widespread light to moderate snowfall is expected during this period in higher reaches and rains in plains of Kashmir valley , however there is no forecast of major snowfall and Weather is expected to improve from Monday onwards , he adds.(PTK).
