Season’s Major Snowfall Disrupts Air Traffic, Jammu-Srinagar NHW Remains Closed For Third Consecutive Day

Srinagar, 08 Jan (PTK) : Intermittent snowfall continued across Kashmir valley for the fourth day on saturday due to which the air service and Jammu-Srinagar national highway continued to be closed.

 

As per the News-agency Press Trust Of Kashmir (PTK) , Jammu-Srinagar highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the rest of the world, also remained closed for the third consecutive day due to continuous accumulation of snow and shooting stones at several places along the national highway.

 

Officials told that no flight could take off or arrive at the Srinagar international airport on Saturday due to poor visibility.

The airlines have already cancelled and delayed several flights till yet, it was highly unlikely for any operation to take place at the airport in wake of the fresh snowfall.

 

Reports also said that several main roads and interior lanes are still clogged with snow even as the divisional administration pressed men and machinery into service in the early hours of the day to clear snow from the roads.

 

Meanwhile, Metrological department while forecasting heavy to heavy snowfall till Saturday evening, said that there is possibility of gradual improvement in the weather conditions from January 09 morning.(PTK).
