Snowfall : IMD Issues Orange alert in J&K
Srinagar, 04 Jan (PTK) : The Indian Metrological department on Tuesday issued an orange alert as Kashmir valley to experience moderate to heavy intensity of snowfall till 9th Jan .
An official from Metrological department Srinagar said that as expected, weather is overcast in both J&K with widespread light rain/snow and moderate snow over higher reaches.
Present weather is likely to intensify as the day progresses. Expect Moderate Snow/Rain in plains and Heavy Snowfall over higher reaches with main activity later tonight and tomorrow in both Jammu and Kashmir.
As per the news agency-Press Trust Of Kashmir (PTK) the weatherman has issued ‘amber/orange warning for “isolated heavy snowfall”.
The weather office has urged people not to venture out on avalanche and landslide prone areas, unless extremely necessary.
Keep power/light backup( in case of power failure).
Drive very slowly and in low gear while driving on snow bound area.
Earlier on monday weatherman issued an advisory regarding widespread rain and snowfall as two western disturbances are most likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir from evening of 3rd to 9th January. Keeping in view, the administration has appealed to the general public to remain cautious and not to venture out in slopes and warned about possibility temporary disruption of air and surface traffic.
