Higher reaches Recieve Fresh Snow, Rains lash plains in valley

 

Light Rain/Snow is most likely to continue till next 12-18 hours,Weather likely to improve from Monday onwards : MeT Official

 

Srinagar, 05 Dec (PTK) : The higher reaches of Kashmir valley including famous ski resort Gulmarg,Sonmarg and gurez received a fresh spell of snowfall while plains recieved rains on sunday , resulting in chilly weather conditions across the Valley .

 

According to press trust of Kashmir (PTK) Currently it is raining over plains of Kashmir and snowing over middle and upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.

 

The famous tourist resort gulmarg in north Kashmir, received over 1 inch of fresh snow , resulting in further dip in the day temperature. Kongdori and Apharwat, the highest point of the cable car project in Gulmarg, also received fresh snowfall.

 

Gurez valley’s Razdan top has received at least 3 inches of snow, Bagtore and Tulail recieved also fresh spell of snow since late night, resulting in closure to the Bandipora-Gurez road.

 

However plain areas of the Kashmir valley also received light to moderate rainfall since early morning of sunday.

 

An official from Metrological department Srinagar told Press Trust Of Kashmir (PTK) that the fresh snowfall in the upper reaches occurs due to an active Western Disturbance, which causes changes in weather,this weather system will remain for next 12-18 hours while there will be moderate snow in higher reaches and rains in plains of Kashmir valley.

 

Earlier the local MeT department predicted that”A Western Disturbance (WD) is most likely to affect Jammu & Kashmir during 5 to 7 December, Widespread light to moderate snowfall is expected during this period in the valley , however there is no forecast of major snowfall and Weather is expected to improve from Monday onwards , he adds.(PTK)
