NRLM conducts Awareness Camp at Aripal, Tral
PULWAMA, DECEMBER 04: NRLM (UMEED), in collaboration with District Administration Pulwama today organised an awareness programme on NRLM (UMEED) scheme run by the Ministry of Rural Development GoI, at Aripal, Tral area of district Pulwama.
The officials of PRIs, RDD, besides LDM Pulwama, District Mission Management NRLM sensitized the participants about different community friendly schemes run by them. S
Several Panchayati Raj Institution members extended their support to the programme and delivered messages among the participants.
Speaking on the occasion, Programme Manager Pulwama, Arsheed Ahmad Bhat educated the participants from uncovered areas of the district and urged them to create Self Help Groups (SHGs) to increase their household income through sustainable livelihood modes and hassle free access to financial assistance.
The Programme Manager NRLM Tral, Irfan Bashir presented an overview of activities, approach and achievements of UMEED-NRLM, particularly in the area of financial inclusion. He said the UMEED under NRLM focuses on women empowerment through various programmes including financial inclusion and sustainable livelihoods.
BPM Pampore, Ajaz Ahmad Wani and BPM Kakapora also added that financial literacy is one of the important strategies to keep SHGs’ and households’ aware about relevant financial services and to build their utilization capacity at the same time. He appealed to all participants to avail the benefit from schemes to enhance their household income and self respect.
Lead District Manager Pulwama, Khursheed said that the provision of SHGs in the UMEED scheme provides women a platform to become entrepreneurs and nurture them till they come out of poverty and enjoy a decent quality of life.
He informed the audience about financial planning, savings, advantages of savings with banks, concept of Business Correspondents, Khidmat Centres, difference between formal and informal source of borrowings and different types of borrowings.
