Address woes of PDD Daily Wagers: Ghulam Mohammad Mir urges Govt.
‘Regularization and salary enhancement remains imperative’
SRINAGAR, November 29 (PTK): Apni Party District President Pulwama Ghulam Mohammad Mir on Monday expressed deep concerns over the negligent attitude adopted by the government towards the long pending demands of the PDD daily wagers.
In a statement issued here, Ghulam Mohammad Mir said that PDD daily wagers are facing extreme trouble while they have been serving in the department for years even without having access to requisite proper safety gadgets.
“Numerous lives have been lost due to electrocution while others have died due to falling down from supply lines. For this risk and unrelenting service to the people this hardworking section is being paid a meagre amount of Rs 6700 monthly wages. This remains a great injustice with them and their families,” he said.
Mir asserted the engineers and other staff members of PDD should also come out and speak for the rights of this neglect section. “They must also endorse their demands and should firmly stand with them so that their genuine pleas are heard and acquiesced,” he added.
He urged the government to recommend their cases for regularisation besides bringing their wages at par with their counterparts under the regular category. “I implore the Lt. Governor led administration, especially PDD, to reciprocate with their genuine demands and come to their rescue in these hard times so that sufferings of their families are finally alleviated.
Furthermore, Mir demanded that proper safety procedures must be incorporated during the repair works on live lines. “Every single human life matters. These nimble workers also have families whom they have to take care of, so the department must ensure all safety procedures are taken into consideration before sending them on overhaul works,” he added.
He also said that if their demands are fulfilled it will also help to curb the current spasmodic power shutdowns as most of the PDD daily wage workforce is on strike these days.:-PTK
