Says Urs observances resuscitate mainstream syncretic cultural identity of Kashmiris based on unity and companionship
Press trust of Kashmir | Srinagar : The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President and Member of Parliament from Srinagar Dr Farooq Abdullah on Sunday greeted people on the 51st annual Urs of Faqeer-e-Milat Hazrat Mirak Shah Kashani (RA) calling him a towering spiritual personality of Kashmir who contributed endlessly for the spiritual upliftment of human beings irrespective of their caste and creed.
In his message, Dr Farooq said that Hazrat Faqeer-e-Milat (RA), an epitome of grace and spirituality, was known for his severity in prayers and supplications. He said the Islamic mysticism has been the cultural mainstay of Kashmiri since the advent of Islam in Kashmir and that the cultural,
social and political life of the people of Kashmir has been greatly fashioned by the teachings of such towering personalities, who during the breadth of their worldly lives strived to guide people towards penance and god consciousness.
“These great men were people of great devotion, selflessness and austerity. Hazrat Mirak Shah Kashani (RA) belonged to the tribe of great men who took immense pains to guide the footsteps of Kashmiris towards righteousness with self example. On the Urs observance of Hazrat Mirak Sahib (RA), I pay him my earnest and rich tributes and pray to almighty Allah that the day acts as a harbinger of peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.
The youth of today and the coming generations have a lot to imbibe from the teachings of such great men. Urs observances like these resuscitate this mainstream cultural identity of ours which has guided us all, and our past generations bound them together with unity and companionship,” he said.
Dr Farooq has also greeted people on the auspicious Urs Observance of Hazrat Mian Nizam Ud Din Kiyanvi (RA). He said Hazrat Kiyanvi sahib (RA) was also a great polymath and physical manifestation of philosophical astuteness and penance.
“I pay my earnest tributes to Hazrat Kiyanavi (RA) Sahib and pray that the Urs observance fosters long lasting peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir. I appreciate the Sajjada Nisheen of Darbar Baba Ji Larvi Mian Bashir Ahmed Sahib for cancelling the annual Urs this year in view of the prevailing Covid -19 crises. The Urs normally witnesses participation of Lakhs of devotees who throng the revered shrine from different parts of the country,” he said..(PTK).
