Forest rights act being implemented for wrong reasons in J&K, alleges Ikkjutt Jammu

SRINAGAR, MAR 06 (PTK): Ikkjutt Jammu on Saturday alleged that Forests rights act 2006 is implemented for wrong reasons in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a press conference in Jammu they said that in J&K authorities are trying to implement forest rights act 2006 on the note of states where it was implemented for right reasons.
Under the act, the rights are being given to who are living on forest land since long time and are practicing settled cultivation, who are dependent on forest cultivation for their livelihood along the tilling rights and if all three requirements will be fulfilled then villages are notified as forest villages however, no one has been given tilling rights so far and one village was declared as forest village like we have revenue villages.
They said that it is a brutal act of Central govt with the people of Jammu as when they are facing challenges for their survival to save state land and other land, govt is coming with act with wrong reasons.
Such things are being done for vote bank only and to please some people, they said.
Our livestock is at stake as now there are open forests and land under forests is decreasing day by day, they added.
They demanded that a committee must be constituted to look into the matter. (PTK)
